How did you get started with video communications?
I was interning at a recording studio in Boston, MA because I thought I wanted to be a recording engineer. I quickly realized I would have a lot of competition if I ever wanted to be a primary engineer at the studio so one day I pitched myself to the owner as a video producer instead. I started making music videos within the month and that’s how I started my career as a video editor/producer. I was happy to not have to bartend on the side anymore!
What prompted you to work for ESD 112?
I wanted to contribute my time and my talents to something I felt like made a bigger difference in my community than making social ads for medical technology companies no one has ever heard of.
What kind of video project do you most enjoy executing?
I like visual, documentary style storytelling. Usually something interview based where the subject can tell their own story and the visuals can be flexibly paired along with it.
What is your favorite way to receive information? What is your least favorite way to receive information?
I love it when someone can just send me a text message or hop on the phone to work something out quickly. Zoom screen share when working on an edit is also super helpful for remote work. Least favorite way is probably email–there are too many emails!
What is your favorite industry trend right now? Least favorite?
I don’t use TikTok because I don’t really identify with it creatively (mostly due to age and level of outward enthusiasm for things). But I think it’s an incredibly interesting trend and I really enjoy all of the creativity that comes out of it for some people.
What are your favorite ways to unplug and decompress?
Playing music, cooking for my friends and family, cuddling with my dog.
If you could interview any person, living or non-living, who would it be, and what would you want to ask them?
I would probably want to hang out with some of the great German philosophers I studied in college, Kant or Hegel or Adorno… I would need a translator, but I would mostly want them to just talk to me about how they see the value of art.
What’s your favorite color? Has it always been that?
Purple and yes.
What are you a superfan of?
Sludge Metal and anything Basketball related.
What is the number one thing about yourself that you wouldn’t want us to tell your mom?
I have a big tattoo of a sound wave smashing through several layers of earth and rock and spitting the rock out into space. It is representative of sound as a physical force in nature. (Please don’t tell her!)
